Proof & Polish

Proof & Polish
Proofreading & Polish Sessions are for that nervous moment when your manuscript is "done"... but you still worry about the little things that can make it look unfinished.

In these sessions, fellow writers read like eagle-eyed future readers. We're scanning for the kinds of glitches that pull someone out of the page: stray typos, missing words, repeated phrases, and grammar snags that slipped through earlier drafts. We'll also note minor formatting quirks-wonky chapter headings, inconsistent spacing, odd punctuation-that can quietly signal "amateur" even when the writing itself is strong.

This isn't about rewriting your voice or line-editing your style. Instead, we work with what you've already crafted and give it a final shine, flagging spots where a sentence could read more smoothly or where a small tweak in word choice would prevent confusion. Many members like to schedule a polish session after a bigger manuscript critique, once major revisions are in place and they're getting ready to share pages with agents, editors, or early reviewers.

You can bring a full draft, a section you plan to submit, or key sample chapters and a synopsis. We'll talk through what you're aiming for-query-ready pages, a competition entry, advance reading copies-and focus our attention there.

By the end, you'll walk away with marked-up pages, a clearer sense of remaining fixes, and the relief of knowing you haven't missed something obvious that a fresh set of eyes would have caught. It's a simple step, but it often makes the difference between "almost ready" and genuinely confident about pressing send on your book.
